What to do when there's no football...
...by which we mean Burnley, of course - we don't count EURO 2004™. (Yes, UEFA have actually trademarked the words ‘EURO 2004’!)
Anyway, if you can tear yourself away from the television / supermarket / garden for long enough, we'd love to see you at one (or more) of our summer social events. Details are below.
Summer 2004 social calendar
Saturday 29th May - day trip to Farnham
Well, we had a great day out in Farnham. Lots of drinking was followed by a nice meal and... lots more drinking! Next season was given an in-depth preview, and we even found time to recreate key moments from the 1994 play-off final. (Well, it was only fitting, being the 10th anniversary.) Photos of the day will follow!
Saturday 12th June - day trip to Lewes
We had another enjoyable day out in Lewes, and even managed to keep up with proceedings in EURO 2004™. Photos will follow.
Saturday 10th July - London Clarets AGM
No ordinary meeting |
Venue: | The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, Clerkenwell |
Date: | Saturday 10th July |
Time: | Starts at 1.00pm, finishes by 5.30pm |
Tube station: | Farringdon |
Special guests: | Dave Edmundson, Chief Executive, Burnley FC Peter Pike, MP for Burnley |
The London Clarets AGM is our main summer social event, and as little like a boring committee-type meeting as we can make it. It's an opportunity to chew the fat with fellow Clarets and look forward to the coming season. Dave Edmundson will be there to answer your questions on what has been another incident-filled nine months, and our Honorary President, Peter Pike MP, will be on hand to give his views. As well as this, it's your chance to have a say in the running of your supporters' club*.
The beer is good, and we'll even throw in an excellent buffet. Plus there'll be the usual Burnley-related raffle - including a chance to win the signed shirt of our sponsored player, Tony Grant.
The meeting is due to start at one, but come earlier if you want to - there'll be people there all day.

Nearest tube is Farringdon, and as ever there's the potential hazard of weekend engineering work to negotiate. Indications at present are that the Circle Line will not be running but there will be additional trains on the Hammersmith and City Line. The Metropolitan Line also serves Farringdon. You can get updates from the London Underground website. Thameslink trains will also be calling at Farringdon, although there will be no cross-London service from Blackfriars to London Bridge. For details see the Thameslink website.
We hope to see you on Saturday!
*Any motions must be sent in writing (email is fine) beforehand to the Secretary, Brent Whittam. His contact details are in your magazine.
Saturday 17th July - London Clarets Darts Festival
This popular event will also be held at the Sekforde Arms. More details to follow nearer the time.
