First division away pub guides

Ah, beer and Burnley, the perfect combination...

On these pages, we make some suggestions about where you might go for a decent drink during Burnley's travels around the First Division.

We present this page with the usual disclaimers. We are merely setting out to list some pubs which we have visited in the past and seemed okay to us, and supplementing that information from other available sources. Naturally, we do not take any responsibility for anything that might occur as a result of following our recommendations. Except possibly someone having a very good time.

We usually move around in a group, but we tend to be a bit discreet about wearing colours. Sometimes it's best to stagger your arrival at a pub, as not all of these will appreciate a large group of people turning up at once. A lot of the pubs which appear here won't necessarily be close to a football ground. After all, most pubs near football grounds are crap, aren't they?

We make no apologies for being biased towards real ale. If you're into fizzy lager out of plastic glasses, go anywhere. It doesn't really matter. If you want a reasonable pint in a pub with character and don't mind moving about a bit, you might find our suggestions helpful. If we can help discerning beer drinkers find decent pubs, then we'll be happy. Real ale is our national drink and it's currently under threat. If you want to protect it, join The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

To be honest, it's a bit annoying having to do all this disclaimer stuff, as we don't see there's anything wrong in trying to help people find good beer, but we don't suppose some things will ever change.

Of course, we welcome any suggestions for inclusion / deletion. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Quite a few of the entries below have not been updated for a while - sometimes just before our last visit. We're aiming to bring them up to date in good time before our visits this season, and to add guides for those new First Division clubs we've never covered.
