A small
measure of revenge
Burnley 2 Manchester City 1

This was more like it. The tried and tested
3-5-2 formation that worked so well last season was used by Stan in the first half, and we
were full value for our 2-0 lead at the interval. Phil Gray started and finished the
first, drilling the ball past Weaver from 25 yards. Paul Weller crossed for an unmarked
John Mullin ten minutes before half time and we were well on top.
I know it was only a friendly, but its still nice to beat Man
City after the last few matches weve had against them. I mean, we want to win every
match we play, dont we?
Again their was torrential rain throughout the match but we played
the ball around well. Citys main threat came through Mark Kennedy, who will no doubt
be hoping this time he will be good enough for the premier league. Pollock looks like
hes lost a lot of weight and had a good game for the visitors as well.
I havent been a big fan of Paul Weller since The Jam split
up, and I know this will Irk the Purists but I preferred then as opposed to now. However,
he had his best game Ive seen him play on Wednesday. He looked to take men on. I
know his finishing is poor but he caused problems on the right, and he does get back and
defend. Competition for places is what Stan wants and I wouldnt necessarily play
Little ahead of Weller at the moment.
Lee Peacock (they paid £650,00 for him, you know) pulled one back
for City. Well, it bounced onto his shins and into the net at the Jimmy Mac end. It took
the City fans a few seconds to realise it had gone in. Stan used seven subs in the second
half, so naturally we didnt play as well as we had been doing and it all became a
bit more disjointed, but the first half showing has to be the formation to start the
season. Bring on Rochdale!
