A good local boozer, close to the corner of Calderbrook Avenue, at the top end of Manchester Road. There is a frequent bus service from the town centre, including the X43 Manchester service, which runs every 20 minutes during the day.

Fortunately this pub has escaped the interior developers / vandalisers, and retains a tap room to the right on entry, and a wonderful snug to the left. The main room is compact and cosy, and contains a TV should you be interested.

What about the beer? Only one available, but at £1.78 the Tetley bitter is reasonably good value, and is always in good shape. For me this confirms that you don't necessarily need to have too many beers on, as long as they are kept well.

It would be easy to give this pub a miss, bearing in mind its location. However, that would be a mistake: you probably won't be disappointed if you venture inside.
