Amazing - another
Thwaites pub selling real ale. Situated in a residential
area just
off the
top end of Padiham Road, The Dugdale was a Good Beer
Guide entry as recently as 1999. Since then there have been a few changes
of landlord, including the removal of real ale at one time. Thankfully,
beer is back; best bitter at £1.83 served in oversized glasses.
I'm all in favour of this type of glass - it means you get a head
of beer, and a full pint as well.
Built in the late
40's, The Dugdale is a large imposing building set in its own grounds.
The Padiham Road area has quite a few decent pubs
to commend it, so a pub crawl in this part of town is well recommended.
I have to say I
find The Dugdale one of the cleanest pubs in town. It's open plan,
but still retains the feel of having several rooms.
There's the main bar area, an area that would have once no doubt
been called a snug, a pool area, and at the far side of the bar the
almost compulsory TV. A central bar serves all sides.
It's often busy,
especially at weekends and on quiz night. It really is a good pint
of Thwaites. Long may it continue.
