Situated near to Gannow Top and Juntion 10 of the M65, this Samuel Smith's tied house
serves probably the cheapest pint in town. I'm sure some clubs sell cheaper, indeed the
Ighten Leigh Social Club nearby does, but you've to be a member or pay an
admittance fee. So at £1.19 for a pint of OBB it's got my vote for value for money - if anyone knows differently,
let me know. Once you've tasted Old Brewery Bitter you'll always remember its distinctive taste.
Very malty with lots of flavour.
Tim Bobbin was a Lancashire poet, and there is at least one memento to him in the lounge. This is now open
plan, but I'm sure at one time there would have been several rooms. If you enter from the front door,
to your left is a cosy area, probably a traditional snug in its day, but still retaining a certain amount of privacy.
The pub is popular with all ages, and, although a locals' pub, heads do not turn when strangers enter.
There is ample car parking at the rear of the pub, and if you enter through the back door, the games room is to
your right. Pool and darts are played, and this room is big enough for people to watch without
crowding the players. There's also an outside drinking area with tables and a shaded area.
The pub is easily reached by public transport from Burnley bus station - any bus heading to Padiham will
take you there. The nearest railway station is Burnley Barracks; from here it is a ten-minute walk.
