One of the problems about having a crack team of match reporters is that it leaves little
to be said in the editorial with regards to playing matters. Clearly, our outlook has become a little less sanguine
since the last edition, but sixth place, just a few points from an automatic promotion position, represents a solid
start to the season. It is also good to see that Stan maintains his ability to get a response from a poor performance.
The point at Gillingham, followed by a home win against a very lacklustre Sheff Utd, was a satisfactory retort to the
Wolves debacle. Our collection of match reports this edition seems to sum up well the
ambivalence of Clarets at the moment. After such a barnstorming start, it's not surprising that we're going through
something of a wobble, but things do genuinely seem to be finely balanced at the moment. Another run of two or three
wins could see us back at the top of the league, but no one's banking on that scenario after Wolves. Conversely, a run
of bad results would see us sinking into that mid-table no man's land, but we all know that this Burnley team can achieve
more.
Many thanks to those who got in touch following our focus in the last edition on racism at Turf Moor, especially
Richard Samuelson. Richard has put forward a practical initiative which has been forwarded to some interested parties
in Burnley. By the time of the next magazine, around mid-January, we should have some indication of whether or not
Richard's suggestion is to be taken further. Not only will we be the first to let you know if something does happen,
we'll be asking for your help!
Firmo has an article appearing in November's When Saturday Comes, which outs general football fans
in the picture about the recent events in the town and the football club, and we have reproduced the article
here. Please do get in touch with us if you have anything to contribute to the magazine on any topic.
Finally, the details of the Christmas social can be found conveniently after the article that seeks to persuade you to imbibe alcohol. The pub is close to East Croydon station and is the hostelry in which many of our members met Ralph Coates before the Palace away game last season. Regardless of what happens at the game, it should be an excellent occasion and provides a chance to chew the fat with other London Clarets. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
