The Thoughts of
Chairman Hego
(excerpts from the little claret
book)
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year
Hope that everybody had a good Xmas, and has said their
prayers for Uncle Stan and his boys' progress in the New Year. I should make the Lincoln
game with a bit of luck, which really is a must win. I can't help thinking that the latest
shenanagins involving Ingleby's threatened litigation could potentially wreck any progress
Stan is likely to make in the second half of the season. It is fairly noticeable that this
yank is perceived to be the saviour by all and sundry Clarets, particularily CISA, so why
am I so cynical?. Well, maybe its because I have worked with and for financial people all
of my career and I have never yet met anyone who remotely resembles a philanthropist. The
club does need help however, and soon, so Mr Ingleby, stop posturing and get your cheque
book out like Barry Kilby, then we can all believe.
Old Boys
Breaks my heart to see Steve Davis doing so well at Lenny
Lawrence's nuthouse, appearing on the moving picture screen on a regular basis. As he
proved during our brief sojourn in Division One he is quite capable of playing at a higher
level than the Kenil club can provide.
After the expensive mistake that was Hateley, the latest
recruit to the Tigers hotseat is no less than Mr. Joyce. He, who scored one of the goals
in the Plymouth playoff game some years ago, has taken over the mantle. The other scorer
that night is apparently back at the Turf, coaching the school of excellence youngsters at
his own expense. Good man.
The FA cup always throws up one or two names from the Claret
grave, and this year was no exception. Adie Randall - remember him? Of course you do:
great talent, no brain, now strutting his stuff at his home town club of Salisbury part
time, in between bouts of driving taxis. Less well known is Steve Waywell, part time
manager of Leigh RMI, who did noticeably better than the Clarets when taking on the rich
boys of Craven Cottage. SW didn't make the first team, but did play in the 68 FA Youth Cup
winning side.
1983/84 Season Programmes
Had a very nice letter from a Mr Pitt in Christchurch Dorset,
who sent a whole batch of programmes, home and away, from the 83/84 season. He has asked
that I find a good home for same, and if anybody is interested, then please get in touch
with me. This chap was a member of the London Supporters Club in the 83/84 season
apparently, as he was a friend of Kevin Reeves and monitored his progress around the
country.
Board Meeting with the Supporters
Groups
I will not comment on the contents of the meeting here, as
this requires more detail in a separate article. Suffice to say
that this was a very positive session, and well worth the 500 mile round trip. The only
point to make here is that the next instalment is in January/February next year, when we
as a club can question the Board (whoever that may be then) on any Claret subject that you
care to mention. Please take this opportunity seriously, by contacting me in the first
instance, and I will ensure that whichever of the two committee members attends the
meeting will raise any points and report back
