I don’t normally write stuff that involves research, and my memory of past games is poor. But when I decided to do this, I had an idea I had a reasonable collection of newspaper cuttings from the 1991-92 season. Then I investigated, and found I didn’t.
In the absence of those, I’ve leaned heavily on the little booklet that was put out by the club at the start of the 1992-93 season, called, simply, Champions. This was edited by Ray Simpson. I’ve used it mainly to establish a chronology and check the facts, while trying to present things in my own words and as I recall them.
Another publication, edited by Ray Simpson and Edward Lee, that I referred to was the Clarets Collection, which sets out the career of every Burnley player from 1945 to its date of publication, 1997. This helped me flesh out my memories of the players.
A further key source was Burnley Are Back, the 1991/92 official season video, produced by Micron Productions. Unfortunately, it doesn’t contain all the goals; you can probably tell which games it covers - they're the ones where the goals are described.
The Clarets.org website [www.clarets.org] has a results database, which usefully gives teamsheets from games in the 1991-92 season.
The Clarets Mad website [www.clarets-mad.co.uk], also offers a results database, which provides league positions for after each game.
The two end of season special papers produced by the Burnley Express and the Lancashire Evening Telegraph
were both were useful. Many of the quotes used come from the Evening Telegraph supplement. The one or two snippets of
newspapers that I had saved came from the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and rarely, when we made it in there, the Guardian.
Finally, the other accounts of the season that have appeared in the London Clarets magazine and on this website were something I enjoyed referring to.
These are the main sources I have referred to, but of course I should make clear that any errors or omissions are my own.
