Player of the year 1999-2000
As at 4th February 2000

The position at 4th February, with still many votes to be counted from the visit to Stoke is:

Mitchell Thomas 316

Glen Little 205
Steve Davis 166
Andy Payton 165
Paul Cook 147
Andy Cooke 106
Paul Crichton 104
Lenny Johnrose 62
John Mullin 35
Paul Smith 31
Micky Mellon 29
Dean West 24

Graham Branch 22

Also scored votes:

Chris Brass (16), Tom Cowan (14), Ronnie Jepson, Gordon Armstrong (10), Paul Weller (5), Cornish Pasty at Bristol Rovers (3), gym troupe at Bristol Rovers, Alec Gilroy at Bristol City, Bob Blow's new scarf at Reading, the Heads' grey sweatshirt at Reading, cab driver at Reading, the landlady whose hair was like Tony Hancock's at Reading, Mike E Benyon's floppy hat at Reading and home to Wycombe (2), Alan Lee, Mark Robertson, Alec Gilroy's friend at Bristol City, the referee at Bristol Rovers, Cheese and Onion Pasty at Bristol Rovers, rich Reading fans who can afford to pay £3 for a cheese sandwich (1).

Mitchell Thomas continues to hold an impressive lead, currently over the three figures mark. He looks set to pick up the award in his first season at the club. Glen Little has moved into a comfortable second place after his good form of the last couple of months, whereas Steve Davis has slipped back following his disappointing performances over the same period. Indeed, it seems likely that when all the Stoke votes are included, Andy Payton will leapfrog above him into third spot.

At the bottom, Ronnie Jepson and Gordon Armstrong have both stormed into double figures, leaving the 'non-playing' votes trailing in their wake.

Individual men of the match since the last mag are:

Cardiff H Little (21)
Bury A Little, Johnrose (7)
Oxford H Payton (24), Little (19)
Notts Co A Little (10), Cook (8), Thomas (7)
Coventry A Mullin (13), Thomas (11)
Chesterfield A Thomas (11)
Oldham H Thomas (8), Cooke (7)
Stoke A (to date) Payton (10)

Just to recap on the voting system - members get two votes for their first and second choice man of the match for every Burnley game they see. The first choice is allocated two points, the second choice one point. At the end of the season, the player with the most points is the London Clarets Man of the Match. You can give your votes to Woody in person, or post them to the address at the back of the magazine.
