A Claret at the San
Siro
From comments on the
website I take it you were already aware of Steve Taylor's presence at the San Siro before
the excellent Independent article last Wednesday.
Still thought you might be
interested to know for sure that he did indeed wear his BFC shirt (this season's model)
whilst forking and prodding the pitch at the European Cup Final.
I was lucky enough to win a
work-related incentive competition and go to the game. Having seen the Independent
whilst on the way out to Milan, I kept my eyes peeled in the stadium. I had no less than
Harry and Jamie Redknapp sitting behind me, and they were somewhat bemused when, after
remaining relatively impassive throughout the first half, I suddenly began to get very
animated at half-time when the man in Claret and Blue entered the arena. Harry told me he
"remembered when Burnley were a good team." I managed to refrain from telling
him I remembered when he had a job!
Anyway, when he re-emerged at
full-time, prior to extra-time being played, he eventually left the pitch on my side of
the stadium. I managed to nip down the front and attract his attention as he walked by.
Over a small moat and with 80,000 others making a hell of a racket it was hard for the
conversation to rise above the calibre of "Oi... Come on you Clarets!" but he
definitely got the message , grinning back and giving me a thumbs up.
Incidentally, on the night I also
met Pele, but he was a bit disappointing, not bothering to wear a Burnley shirt and march
up and down the pitch at half time!
