/9 Ray Ingleby becomes Burnley's Vice Chairman. He hopes to raise commercial revenue from new sources, with the target of finding an additional £1,000,000 a year for the club. These look like including financial products carrying the Burnley name. He stresses again the common mantra that we need to get into the first division before the gap becomes too wide. Ingleby adds that his involvement with Burnley is "like a drug" and in hindsight he doesn't regret losing his bid to become Chairman. He says he enjoys working with Kilby and John Turkington, and adds that he plans to move back to Britain permanently and spend more time with the club

/9 John Mullin goes for a scan on his injured hip. Mark Robertson plays as a late substitute as the ‘Olyroos’ (really?) beat Southampton 4-1 at the Dell.

/9 Burnley 2 Bournemouth 1. This is rated as our best performance so far. Scorers: Branch, Davis / Stein. Team: Crichton, West, Davis, Thomas, Smith (Cowan 65), Armstrong, Little, Mellon, Cook (Jepson 88), Branch (Johnrose), Payton. Subs not used: Brass and Robertson. (We beg for Robertson's release, bring him north, then make him sit on the bench. Classic.) Att: 10,233. See our match report for details. Alan Lee is not used as Eire Under 21s lose 5-1 to Croatia. But what the hell, we are top of the league!

/9 For a few hours anyway… Bristol Rovers play and go top.

/9 With Bristol City about to sell Ade Akinbiyi, it's rumoured that they'll move for Andy Cooke as a replacement. Graham Branch once again reasserts that now he has scored a goal, there’ll be no stopping him. He says. "I think sometimes the crowd think I'm not trying, but I'm very laid-back. I've always been laid-back." Laid-back it is, then.

/9 Bert Freeman's 1914 FA Cup Winner's medal is to go on display at Townley Hall. It has been donated by Harry Brooks, who bought it at an auction a few years back.

/9 Burnley Reserves 1 Preston Reserves 1. Brad Maylett is our scorer. Alan Lee plays 81 minutes for Eire Under 21s against Malta, but does not score. Mark Robertson is not selected for the Australian Olympic v Kuwait game.

/9 All 4,000 tickets for our game at Preston are reported as having been sold. It is revealed that William Hill is offering 100-1 on a combined bet for Burnley to go up and Blackburn to go down. Punting in the Burnley area is brisk. Albert Pickering joins Hyde of the Unibond League.

/9 Ahead of our game against Preston, Burnley reject Kurt Nogan is rumoured to be ready to move to Blackpool. See, he always lets you down in the end.

/9 Preston 0 Burnley 0. Clarets have the better of the game but don't make enough chances. Team: Crichton, West, Smith (Cowan 77), Mellon (Johnrose 77), Davis, Thomas, Little (Mullin 72), Cook, Payton, Branch, Armstrong. Subs not used: Jepson and Lee. Att: 13,708. See our match report for details. Ternent says he regards this as "a good point" away from home, considering a number of players play below their best. Factoid no. 1: those present should feel privileged to witness the first goal free match between the two sides in more than a hundred years. Factoid no. 2: despite the fact that he’s our longest serving player and we play them all the time, this is Paul Smith’s first match at Deepdale. On an upbeat note, from our point of view most of the pubs in Preston are open, and the Thwaites Dark Mild in the Wetherspoon's is stupendous value at 99p a pint. We go fourth on goal difference, level on points with the three above us. Alex Kevan scores all four goals as Burnley youth beat Rochdale youth 4-1.

/9 The longest recorded pregnancy in history comes to an end, as Glen Little finally becomes a father. Congrats to Glen and girlfriend on the birth of Keiron.

/9 Wolves Reserves 3 Burnley Reserves 1. Alan Lee scores. Team: Mawson, Scott, Cowan (Devenney), Heywood, Brass, Kevan, Weller, Mullin (Kelly), Jepson (Shandran), Robertson, Lee. Ternent says his players need to get used to being at the top of the league, as all the other teams will be trying to beat them.

/9 Bryan-Robson's-Middlesborough are linked with a move for Glen Little, Viv Anderson apparently being a frequent visitor to Turf Moor. Peter Swan returns to Lilleshall for more rehabilitation work on his injured knee.

/9 Marlon Beresford is linked with a move to Bristol City.

/9 Stephen Grant goes home to Ireland, apparently being disappointed at being low down the pecking order, to decide whether to continue with his football career or go into the family business. He is alleged to have said, "I don't need to play football for a living." The club says he can come back if he wants, but if he doesn’t, we’ll respect his decision. The third meeting between the board and supporters groups takes place. See our report for details.

/9 The club announce that the match against Scunthorpe will be a kid-a-quid day for people buying in advance. They also say they’ll look again at kit sponsorship, as this was raised at last night’s meeting. The club also promise a video of the history of Burnley will be on sale for Christmas.

/9 Burnley 3 Colchester 0. Andy Payton grabs a hat trick (9, 38 pen, 51), his first for the club, which also gives him his 150th league goal. Afterwards, he says he feels it has been overdue, and thanks Little and Smith for two excellent balls into the box for the first and third goals. His second is a penalty from a Graham Branch dive. Team: Crichton, West, Smith, Mellon (Johnrose 70), Davis, Thomas, Little (Mullin 73), Cook, Payton, Branch (Lee 63), Armstrong. Subs not used: Cowan and Jepson. Att: 10,090. See our match report for details. Meanwhile, the youth team beat Tranmere Youth 3-0, with two from Shandran and an own goal. Elsewhere, Mark Winstanley notches a rare goal for Shrewsbury, and Kevin Henderson scores for Hartlepool. Oh yeah, and we are top of the league – again. And this time, we’re staying there all week.

/9 Brad Maylett will be out for three months with medial ligament damage. Albert Pickering, after his very short spell with Hyde, signs for Altrincham.

/9 We are once again alleged to be looking for another goalkeeper.

/9 The club reveal that they have asked the FA if they can stage an international of some kind at Turf Moor, preferably an under 21 international. This is in response to a question raised at the Board-Supporters meeting. Mark Robertson is said to want to leave. It's claimed the Australian Olympic coach has told him he needs to be playing first team football if he is to make the squad. Another rumour spreads that Ternent and Little have 'had a falling out.' Wonder if there's ever any fire behind this persistent smoke?

/9 We play another 'behind closed doors' practice match, beating Bolton 3-1. Goals come from Cooke, marking his return to action, Lee and Weller. Ternent says Weller is now ready to rejoin the first team, and names him in the squad for Bristol City, alongside Cooke. Also featuring in the game is John Mullin's 25 year-old brother Paul, who scored eighteen goals last season for Radcliff Borough but has never played league football. Despite this, Bury and Blackpool are also said to be interested. Ternent explains he keeps having to arrange these odd matches because the reserves programme has been reduced with the break-up of the Pontins League and the under 19 rule is strictly enforced in the new Football League Youth Alliance, which replaced the old Lancashire League. So now you know.

/9 Bristol City 0 Burnley 0. Few chances are created in this poor game, but against that, the Bristol pubs are well up to scratch. Team: Crichton, West, Davis, Thomas, Smith, Armstrong, Little (Mullin 71), Mellon, Cook (Jepson 86), Branch (Johnrose 77) , Payton. Subs not used: Brass and Cooke. Att: 11,510. See our match report for details. Meanwhile, Rune Vindheim turns out for Hartlepool on trial, having been released from his contract.

/9 Ternent is touted as a possible replacement for Colin Todd, who has just resigned from Bolton. Ternent says doesn't know anything about this. Those daft trainspotters at the Opta Index announce that Paul Cook is the best passer in the division.

/9 Paul Weller speaks about his illness in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, revealing that he considers himself lucky to be playing football again, and is "glad to be alive."

/9 Walter Joyce dies at the age of 62. Joyce, a wing-half, played in 89 games for Burnley between 1960 and 1964, and of course his son Warren also went on to play for us. Burnley Reserves 2 Port Vale Reserves 2. Goals from Weller and Lee. Team: Mawson, Scott (Shandran), Cowan, Brass, Heywood, Devenney, Weller, Mullin (Bowden), Cooke, Johnrose(Williamson), Lee.

/9 John Turkington says he is prepared to invest some more cash in the club, believing we will need to have £5 million available if we win promotion. He is looking into ways of using the empty space between the two tiers of the Jimmy McIlroy Beehole Stand. Turkington reveals that the club is still losing money, and Ternent has little to spend.
