Rhapsody in Claret and Blue
The official history of Burnley FC

At long last Burnley fans can now buy a video of the proud history of Burnley FC. And the good news is – it’s splendid! Hats off to Burnley for the launch of Rhapsody in Claret and Blue – the official history of Burnley Football Club.

The makers of this video have worked hard to track down rare footage of great moments in Burnley’s history, including no less than our 1914 FA Cup Final Triumph vs Liverpool, coverage of the Clarets in the European Cup and colour highlights of the 1962 FA Cup Final against Spurs.

I must say, I am very impressed with this video, having watched my copy more or less the minute I got back home to London. Unlike some previous Burnley productions, the whole thing has been very professionally put together. At 85 minutes, it’s naturally something of a whistlestop tour, but it really does capture what it is about our history that makes this club so special. For the old fans, this will bring back many happy memories. For younger Clarets, who may be unaware of some of these events, this video makes an ideal history lesson.

I never imagined I might see actual footage from our 1914 FA Cup win, and I watched that pretty much open-mouthed. Another personal highlight was the goals from my favourite ever Burnley match, the 1994 play-off win at Plymouth. From now on, I’ll be able to replay Johnny Francis’ two goals whenever the mood takes me, and for that alone, I’m grateful.

Rhapsody in Claret and Blue was produced by Stewart Binns, recently in the headlines with the acclaimed ITV documentary series The Second World War in Colour, and Micron Video, and is narrated by TV commentator John Helm. It’s clear how much effort has gone into its making. It even features interviews with two Prime Ministers, Edward Heath and Tony Blair – but don’t let that put you off!

It should be obvious from the above what a treat this video will be for any Burnley fan, and I honestly believe no self-respecting Claret should be without it. So what are you waiting for? It can be found in club shops, both at Turf Moor and in the newly opened town centre shop, and is also available via the official club website at www.burnleyfootballclub.com. it’s priced at £15.99. Ring the club shop on 01282 700016 for more details.

Please do think about buying a copy, as not only will it be something to watch again and again, but you will also be supporting the club financially. The club has invested substantially to make this video of the highest quality. It has already sold in its thousands and made the club a profit, and we can continue to make it a success. I’m off to watch mine again now!
