Bradford 2 Burnley 2, Saturday 21st September 2002

"The valley of Humiliation" - John Bunyan, The Pilgrim's Progress, Pt. I.

The statistics said...

We drew 2-2 with Bradford City at Valley Parade. Goals were as follows: (Bradford) Gray 17, Proctor 90 / (Burnley) Blake 57, Taylor 76.

You should be advised that...

Bradford had two players sent off during the match (Bower in the 36th minute and Cadamarteri in the 55th). Once we went 2-1 up, we sat back, passed the ball across the back and generally took the piss for 15 minutes (instead of pushing forward to get a third goal and put the game beyond nine-man Bradford's reach). We then got what we deserved, as the casual showboating eventually resulted in an error by Steve Davis and thence Bradford's equaliser in stoppage time.

Our survey said...

Joan:

What the hell was that? I don't know what to think - why were we messing about like that?

Julian:

The most unprofessional, amateurish, non-league, pathetic display in the second half I have ever seen. I walked away from the game feeling like we'd lost. I hope Stan tells them what we all think.

Barbara:

I can't believe I saw what I saw. What a treasure Marlon is. Dock all their wages until they play with much more conviction.

Dermot:

It was just a poor performance. Just a pure lack of passion from the players.

Joanne:

Very disappointing - bad tactics. When is Stan going to drop Tony Grant?

Phil:

I'm not arguing that it was a game we should have won easily - clearly we've thrown away two points. As dubious as the tactics were, we kept possession well and it was looking like the typical Ternent away win. I think the Burnley fans' reaction was perhaps a touch harsh. I just hope that conceding that goal doesn't have disastrous consequences for the campaign ahead.

Michael:

This was a team playing without brains or heart. If Stan can't get them to use either or both of those, he should go.

John:

It was just more embarrassing than anything else. We should have put them away, but instead revealed our limitations - especially in midfield.

Firmo:

Today was one of the strangest games I've seen in a long time. It was a contest between two hopeless sides. It's now three hours after the game, and I still can't believe we didn't win. We looked an absolute gift horse in the mouth today.

The reason why we didn't win is down to sheer unprofessionalism on the part of the players and the management. Gifted an opportunity to win the game by Cadamarteri's disgraceful (and typical) elbow, we comprehensively fucked up. Having got the lead against nine men, all we had to do was play our normal game and win. We farted around, and, following Davis's appalling error, we paid the price. We pissed two precious points away.

The team should feel ashamed of themselves. Through their lack of professionalism they have let us all down today. To make things worse, I have been treated like a child by an officious GNER ticket-checker (step forward Mr Dee Moyo), slagged off by a load of Luton wankers, and been criticised for drinking by the middle-class tossers on the next table.

I was sickened when Bradford scored their equaliser. It's going to take a long time to forgive Burnley.

Pic of the day

Our view of the match - great if you like large expanses of metal, not so great if you actually want to see the game. Evidently people paying cash on the day (as opposed to buying tickets in advance, as we did) got better seats! Presumably this 'policy' makes perfect sense to someone in Bradford's ticket office...

Wherever we looked, the pole was there
