Paddy:
A thoroughly competent and professional performance. The first half was a dire affair, with Burnley happy to take the sting out of any Brentford threat. Once we'd scored, after a piece of inspired Branch vision, we seemed content enough to try and play the game out, although there were a couple of hairy moments. Two late breakaway goals flattered us somewhat, but we nonetheless deserved the victory. Burnley's best performances came from Driss, Branch and Beresford.
Hozzo:
Sitting with a sideways view of the main stand at Brentford, looking straight along the eighth row, I found it somewhat hard to look sideways to watch the match. (And one of the goals was behind a floodlight pylon!) How much I appreciate the excellent view I have from my seat at Turf Moor, where I can see all four corner flags with no restricted view in between. A good performance from the team; Marlon in top form. Roll on the draw on Monday!
Woody:
I thought we did a professional job. We kept it tight for the first half, and probably shaded that half. In the second half we took our chances as they came, and withstood their bouts of pressure. We deserved to win, although 3-0 was a bit flattering.
Kevin:
We defended really well, and took the chances we got. Brentford came at us in the second half, but we kept our backs to the wall and kept them out.
After the game, the Brentford manager said that he'd made a bad decision bringing on an attacking player for a defender when they were 1-0 down. I don't think it necessarily was a bad decision, though - any manager would have done the same. The reason they conceded two more goals had more to do with their defensive errors - and Glen Little was brilliant!
Michael:
3-0 certainly flattered us. We just about deserved to win, if only because we never looked like losing. The team, particularly the defence, were definitely up for the game.
The seats we had were appalling, so I stood behind the goal in the second half. It was very nice to appreciate just what a competent keeper Marlon is (even though it's a bit scary being that close to the Burnley defence!). Arthur was tremendous; very pacy. Driss played well too, and was equally fast.
It was virtually impossible to see the goals, particularly the second and third, but I enjoyed watching them on Match Of The Day afterwards. Branch's ball for the first goal was magnificent, but it was fortunate that it was Blake on the end of it and not anybody else. I didn't enjoy the 10 minutes of mayhem after we opened the scoring, though, and if we had conceded then, things could have been quite different.
Brent:
We deserved to win, although at times we struggled against a resilient Brentford side and a poor referee. Blake and Beresford were outstanding.
Poll of the day
How it works: A key issue from the day is highlighted, and voted on by a sample of London Clarets. Today's poll saw 12 votes cast.
The question: Forgetting all other possibilities, which would you prefer in the next round: Arsenal away or Rochdale at home?
The result: 4 London Clarets think that a trip to Highbury would be just the ticket (apparently we haven't played there since the 1975-76 season). However, 8 London Clarets would prefer a home draw against Rochdale (followed, obviously, by Arsenal away in the sixth round!).
Pic of the day #1
And now, a five-second nightmare. We're finding more and more examples of London Clarets who have been cloned. Last week, the ref at Palace was the spitting image of Paddy, our Travel Secretary. Now it turns out that our esteemed Treasurer, Mr Michael E Benyon, was cloned several years ago. His genetic twin moved to America, where he starred in a low-budget TV series as detective Frank Cannon. We urge you to write to your MP and put a stop to this cloning business - you never know where it might end. (Two Neil Warnocks, anyone?)
