Burnley 2 Gillingham 0, Saturday 19th April
Young guns go for it
The statistics said...
We beat Gillingham 2-0 at the Turf. Our goals were scored by Gareth Taylor (28) and Driss Diallo (50), each one starting with a Matty O'Neill long throw.
For our first, keeper Vince Bartram punched the ball out, but only as far as Ian Moore. Mooro headed it across to Golden Bonce, who duly volleyed home, and then celebrated by pointing to his foot! Our second goal saw Driss evade the Gills' defence and head home directly from the throw-in.
Both sides were depleted by injuries, and featured some young players. Stan gave a start to O'Neill, and brought on Richard Chaplow just before half time when Paul Weller picked up an injury. Towards the end of the match, Andrew Waine replaced Robbie Blake, and then Mark Rasmussen replaced O'Neill. We also had Andrew Leeson on the bench.
The Gills were without several players, including forwards Guy Ipoua (on trial with a US club), Marlon King and Rod Wallace. Boss Andy Hessenthaler gave young midfielder Danny Spiller his second League start, and subsequently brought on youngsters Jones Awuah and Akwasi Edusei (the latter only sixteen).

Barbara:
A good performance, especially by the youngsters. Two fine long throws by Matty O'Neill led to the goals. Another consistent performance by Branchy.

A Burnley bear,

Unfortunately, we won 2-0, so I will have to wait until (Sheffield) Wednesday. FREE THE TOYS!

Leave me alone. I'm trying to go to sleep. Sulk, tut, mutter, mumble, grizzle, snore, fart.
Woody:
The season draws to a close, and the only interest is in seeing the young players get their chance. A good win, though.
Matty O'Neill helped with both goals, but needs a few pies to fill him out a bit. Richard Chaplow looks an excellent prospect, and also looks about twelve years old. He definitely needs a summer in the gym to build up his body strength.
Paddy:
A relatively easy win at an eerily quiet Turf Moor. Highlight of the day was the full League debut of my namesake, Matty O'Neill, and his long throw. It was also nice to see some of the other youngsters featuring.
Pic of the day
We've touched on this cloning business before, after noticing that several London Clarets have doppelgängers. (For example: Paddy and referee Mark Cooper; Mr Benyon and detective Frank Cannon; Barry Heagin and Henry VIII...)
Before Saturday, it was just a theory. But now, we've proved beyond doubt that it really is happening. We present to you three images: the "Hop Back Brewery" man; the blues singer Courtland Bresner (who?); and our own Vice Chairman, Mr Ian Wood. Can you tell which is which?
