Burnley 2 Norwich 0, Saturday 23rd November 2002
Canaries not singing anymore

The statistics said...

We beat Norwich 2-0 to climb to 9th in the table. Our goals were from McGregor (a header from a free kick - 59) and Little (a close-range effort to seal the victory - 85). Norwich had some chances themselves, but a fine performance by Beresford saw us take all three points.

Our survey said...

John: An excellent team performance (made better by the thought of three key players missing). Marlon made some excellent saves, keeping us in the match. The makeshift defence more than held their own. A battling midfield, and a forward line causing so many problems for the Norwich defence. Great to see Burnley score when facing a ten-man wall of Norwich players. A great result, and a great day - proud to be a CLARET!

Danny: A very good all-round performance. There wasn't a bad player on our side. Norwich contributed to a fine game of football, and we came out on top. Blake was outstanding.

Chris: Blake played well, but he must stop doing his annoying short corners.

Michael: It was a hard-fought victory, which we just about deserved.

Mike: Nice to see a higher gate. A good team performance all round. Pity Cook got injured.

Paddy: First half even, with Burnley having a goal disallowed for offside - a dubious decision at best. Second half saw both sides going for the win. The crucial first goal came after some quick thinking by Blake, taking a free kick early to find McGregor poorly marked in the box. After that, both sides wasted good chances, and Beresford was as reliable as ever, making some good saves. Little's goal rounded off a good performance, especially taking into account the fact that several key players were missing. One other thing - although the highest crowd of the season, it was disappointing in the sense that more were expected after the apparently high ticket sales from the Manchester United offer...

Duncan (Norwich): An even game. There were chances at both ends, but Burnley made the most of theirs.

Paul (Norwich): We were let down by our defensive frailties, and poor refereeing.

We'd like to thank Duncan and Paul for contributing to our vox pop.

Pic of the day

Deep in the forest...something stirred. A previously undiscovered species, characterised by an unusual plumage and black-capped head. The eyes are vestigial. The creature is usually found asleep in its lair, but when awake it communicates via a repeated call of "Taxi! Taxi!". Hang on - perhaps it's just London Clarets stalwart Nigel Bl**kburn catching up on some shut-eye prior to the game?!

He's travelled from Dover - let him rest!
