Rotherham 3 Burnley 0

Mayday

The statistics said...

We lost 3-0 to Rotherham United at Millmoor. Their goals came as follows: Butler 15; Stockdale 39; Proctor 85 (pen). Despite the defeat, our Division One future was assured because Walsall lost to Crystal Palace. We are now in 19th place in the table.

After the game, Stan Ternent congratulated the players on retaining the Club's First Division status, but also said that some of them were "a disgrace to the Claret and Blue shirt". Let's hope they can pick themselves up for the last game of the season on Sunday.

Our survey said...

Joan:

A disappointing first half. Again we gifted two soft goals, and never really looked like scoring. Bye bye, Jensen. Weller got some harsh treatment in the first half, and must be covered in bruises.

Chaplow and Johnrose put in a lot of hard work in midfield, but Rotherham's tactics of kicking the ball high over everyone paid off. Their defenders were too big for us to cope with.

I hope we get a good performance for the last match at home. Roll on next season in Division One.

Nic:

The game was rather disappointing, although things picked up substantially in the second half. Camara and Jensen were shocking, and I'm just glad that the scoreline wasn't crucial.

Lee W:

The game was lost in the first half due to an inept display from our so-called full backs and the unconvincing goalkeeper.

At least we will still be in Division One next season, but I fear for the future unless we sign a better back three.

Barbara:

Safe at last - only as a result of the mistakes of other teams, but who cares?

The match was dreadful. I hope next week will end the season on a positive note.

Simon:

I am waiting for £4 change from Patrick, which will be the highlight of an unmemorable day. But I am not holding my breath, sir.

Luke:

A poor performance from a team that had decided they would hope Palace would win, rather than actually try. Nobody stood out as a First Division player.

Editor's note: sorry, we've no idea - although the first word seems to be ‘Rubbish’...  The hieroglyphists are attempting a first translation right now!

Liz:

Good job that our strategy of relying on Walsall not winning worked... we were pants.

Alan:

Lenny should have caught Jensen with one for the second goal - it would have been the only thing Jensen caught all game.

Editor's note: we've no idea who Alan and Liz are - but cheers for the comments, guys!

Tim:

Staying up. Thank God! A lot of work (for someone) to do in the summer!

Woody:

In the first half, they wanted to win and we wanted a summer holiday. There was an improvement in the second half, but we couldn't disturb their centre backs enough.

The first-half goals were down to Jensen and Camara, who are the worst two players ever to play 46 League games for the Clarets at this level. If those two jokers are First Division players, I am the Hop Back Man.

Editor's note: twins separated at birth, we think!

Steve:

Luckily for us, Walsall had to go to Palace.

We need at least five new players next season, just to save us from going through all this again. To me, Lenny looked like one of the better players out there. That sums it up!

Firmo:

I never thought I'd say this, but thank God for Crystal Palace!

Ultimately, we've stayed up - there were three worse teams than us (pretty amazing when you think about it).

It was a shocking game, obviously. We didn't learn anything new today. Jensen isn't good enough, and Camara and Roche can't defend... but we knew this in August.

At least we looked more solid in the second half... when we had two makeshift full backs playing better than the players Stan signed last summer.

Ah well - regardless of the result, at least we're in this Division again next season. Calls for a drink! Now, at least we can enjoy the Su'lan' game purely for the football and beer.

PS Good riddance to Carlisle!

Poll of the day

The question:

Who has been Burnley's  worst player  this season?

The responses:

  • 1 vote for Paul Weller
  • 2 votes for Graham Branch
  • 2 votes for Lee Roche
  • 4 votes for Mo Camara
  • 4 votes for Brian Jensen

What does this tell us? Er... that Stan's recent signings haven't been terribly successful, perhaps?

Pic of the day

To celebrate securing another season in Division One, Firmo gave Barry Kilby's coat another airing. Our Chairman was also wearing Graham Branch's shorts, but wouldn't be persuaded to model them for the camera!
