Burnley 3 Sheffield United 2
Revenge is so sweet

We beat Sheffield United 3-2 at the Turf. Burnley drew first blood in the 17th minute with a Robbie Blake shot from the edge of the area. United then equalised - via Nick Montgomery - in the 24th minute. The Blades then went two up via a Mike Whitlow header (31), only for Ian Moore to almost immediately score Burnley's second (34 - a header from a Blake free kick).
In the 45th minute, McGregor was fouled in the area, and the referee awarded a penalty. Blake slotted it home to make the score 3-2 to the Clarets.
The second half saw no goals, but Burnley withstood the pressure to take all three points from what was generally agreed to be a very entertaining game. The other incident of note was the 59th-minute sending off of United midfielder Michael Brown for a foul on Blake.
United are, of course, managed by Stan's arch-foe Neil Warnock, and have enjoyed good results against us recently. They have had a very good season so far, and came into the game as favourites. So it was all the nicer when they went home empty-handed!
We're now up to 14th in the Division One table, having taken eight points from the last twelve. Fingers crossed for Saturday, when Coventry are the visitors.

A sweet victory against the man who masquerades as a football manager, Colin Wanker*. As I've previously stated, Sheffield United push, shove, dive and generally cheat, which is an insult to players like Brown and Ndlovu. They would no doubt enjoy their football more playing for someone who wants to be a football manager.
On the day, the Sheffield United goalkeeper gave us two goals, from efforts from Blake and Moore that should not have been conceded, and we gave away two soft goals. The wonderful final irony was that the winning goal was a penalty, when two clear Sheffield United fouls had been committed in the build-up to the attack and had been ignored by the weak referee, Neale Barry.
Barry then sent off Michael Brown for a marginal bookable offence, which gave Warnock something to moan about and Barry a headline.
For the Clarets, McGregor and Blake were the pick, but at the end it was real hanging-on stuff. But... tomorrow, over Sunday lunch, Ternent smiles, and Warnock doesn't.
Warnock ruins players of decent quality, and his reaction to Blake at the final whistle, when he shoved him away, was disgraceful. Indeed, if Neil Warnock is fit to be a football manager, I am Ronald McDonald.

Richard:
This was a 'game of two halves'. The first half had some good football, but the second was mainly kick and rush.
During the game, Burnley held the lead twice and Sheffield United once. All the goals were scored in the first half, and the early play was characterised by glaring Burnley misses in front of goal. However, the ineptitude of the Sheffield United goalkeeper allowed Blake to open the scoring from twenty yards. Ian Moore scored to make it 2-2, and Blake made it 3-2 from the penalty spot.
Michael:
An excellent game of football, especially for a neutral. A lot harder to watch if you aren't neutral.
We could have been several goals up before they equalised and then took the lead. We did well to come back before half time, and then hung on valiantly against a team who tried to win the game.
Robbie Blake was superb. Gnohere and McGregor did very well, as did The Beast in the second half. All in all, a hard-earned victory, and an unexpected three points.
Joan:
Brilliant result! Some good football, most of the time. We still gave away two unnecessary goals, but could have scored more.
McGregor and Camara kept going well, and Blake and Moore were excellent.
Dermot:
After an excellent start and going one up, we conceded two silly goals. By half time, we were deservedly 3-2 up.
The second half was a mixed affair, with very little football played and chances falling to both sides. On opportunities, I think we deserved the victory.
I think the referee was poor for both sides with his decisions.
A well deserved three points!
Firmo:
Am I allowed back into the country yet?
Sorry - not whilst this run of form continues!

Unfortunately, this was a small trip. We're saving it for next week!
Pic of the day - Sleeping Beauties?
Somehow, it's always easier to sleep after a good win.
Our Travel Secretary and furry friend, sometime around 3am on Sunday. Paddy likes it when Burnley win. Marlon also likes it when Burnley win - he couldn't care less who "Colin" is, but he gets extra food and extra petting, and no-one minds if he claws the carpet! (And yes, he was named after you-know-who.)
