We
lost 4-1 away at West Brom.
We went ahead in the 28th minute via a free kick
from Robbie Blake. The Baggies equalised in the
31st minute via a stunning long-distance strike
from Macedonian midfielder Artim Sakiri. A Rob
Hulse free header in the 59th minute took the score
to 2-1; Lee Hughes then scored twice (in the 88th
and 89th minutes) to seal the win for West Brom.

I think at 2-1 it was a fair result; I thought 4-1
was unjust. We played very well to the penalty area
- a big improvement on last week - but we missed Gareth
Taylor from an attacking point of view as well as defensively.
The crucial goal was a free header from a corner
inside our 6-yard box, which is totally unacceptable.
With Taylor out for an unknown time, we need to
look towards getting a centre forward on loan to
give our creative forwards somebody to play alongside.
Then we might be able to outscore the opposition.
And if Branch is a centre half, I'm Luke Skywalker.
Paddy:
The scoreline doesn't reflect the game. With a bit
more luck, and cooler finishing, we could have
perhaps sneaked a draw. If the foul on Little
in the second half had been at Turf Moor, we'd
probably have got a penalty, and it could have
been 2-2. An overall improvement on last week,
but we must get three points against Wigan. Otherwise,
it could be last season revisited.
Pauline:
We played quite well, but West Brom were simply too
good for us, and this showed as the game went on.
Think about it: they had Lee Hughes on the bench;
with
no disrespect,
we
had
Richard
Chaplow.
I
can't understand why people are saying that we
were unlucky to lose, it should
have
been a
draw,
etc. Likewise, I can't fathom out the mentality
of some of the Burnley "supporters" behind us today
who
were shouting at the team that they were "shite",
"lazy", "useless", etc. The reason we lost is simple:
West Brom were better than us. The main reason
they were better than us is also simple: money.
They
have it, and we don't.
We
obviously need to strengthen our squad, but I'm
sure that Stan is well aware of that. We need to
worry about
having three teams below us at the end of the
season, rather than bellyaching when we lose to
the likes
of West Brom.
I
never thought these words would leave my mouth,
but David May looks like a good signing.
Lee
W:
I could have lived with 2-1, but 4-1 flattered West
Brom. I thought we were the better side in the first
half, but in the second half, they grew stronger and
we grew tired.
I
thought that Roche and Camara looked good going
forward, and May played well for the first hour.
Then they seemed to tire, and West Brom took advantage.
Dermot:
Compared to last week, we started the game well,
and played well until half time.
We
started the second half OK, but our lack of a centre
forward showed. We wasted opportunities with balls
into the box, as we did last week, and we conceded
two late goals pushing forward trying to force
a draw out of the game.
Paul:
Better than last week, but that wasn't hard to achieve!
I thought the goalkeeper had a better game, and
had Taylor been playing we might have got a result.
We didn't really deserve to lose 4-1.

Programmes
cost an unbelievable £3 each.
What a disgrace - this is really getting out of
hand. As Woody pointed
out,
all
we really want to know is the squads and the officials.
News, comment pieces, player
features and stats are all fine, but
90% of today's programme
was
just
crap.
Why on earth does it need to have 100 pages?
Also,
the thing was poorly presented:
"modern" layout; tiny red and white
text on a black
background; and littered with spelling errors.
Four pages were taken up with a tribute to Ray
Harford - it was a pity they couldn't actually
spell his name.
When
we mentioned the price
to the programme-seller, he explained: "Well,
you do get a free sticker album with it". Yes,
but
why would Burnley supporters want a West Brom
sticker album?
Anyway,
here's what we think of £3 programmes in general,
and West Brom's in particular. A shame the paper's
so glossy.
