Looking ahead to 2003/04
Firmo's comments in the September 2003 edition of When
Saturday Comes
(published at the beginning of August)
WSC: How will you do this season?
Firmo: OK. There have been big changes to the squad, with many players leaving, and, at the time of writing, new ones trickling in. I'm now confident we'll stay in the division again.
WSC: Teams you liked last season - and those you disliked?
Firmo: I admired Gillingham and Rotherham, who stayed in a division many reckon they shouldn't be in. Disliked Sheffield United, of course; Wolves, Palace, Bradford - some whingers in those teams - and Franchise.
WSC: Your best moment during 2002/03?
Firmo: The superb and ultimately rather easy win against Fulham in the FA Cup. In the league, there were few highlights - apart from the second half at Derby, when we realised we might win some games this season; and becoming the first team to beat Leicester at their new ground.
WSC: And the worst?
Firmo: I'm tempted to say the FA Cup defeat at Watford, or any number of scarcely believable "one-off" heavy defeats, but it's hard to look beyond the death of a young Forest supporter in Burnley before our game against them.
WSC: And your motto?
Firmo: "We'll crack on and see where it takes us" - Stanglish rather than Latin for us, please.
