Ralph Coates joins the London Clarets
It was a pleasure to be joined by Ralph Coates for our recent victory at Crystal Palace, in the first special event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the London Clarets. As anyone who met Ralph in the meeting pub before the game, at the match or over a quick pint after the game can confirm, Ralph was great company, and ever willing to sign the many items of Burnley memorabilia brought along, pose for photos, or just talk about his time with us. It's clear he still holds great affection for Burnley, and if I didn't before know what Clarets thought of him, the reaction to his presence on the away end said it all. Half time brought a queue of people having their programmes and tickets signed, or just wanting to shake Ralph's hand and wish him all the best.
I'm delighted to confirm that Ralph was given his membership card and, being based in the south, is now an honorary member of the London Clarets. I hope we'll be able to see him again sometime.
Best of all, I was able to get my original copy of The Abs' classic record 'Grease Your Ralph' signed!
Our thanks are due to Phil Whalley, for taking care of the arrangements, to Big T for supplying the photo of Ralph at the match with some of our members, and naturally to Ralph himself.
