The Orient Game

The Orient Game was a pivotal moment in the modern history of Burnley FC. If that game had been lost - if results elsewhere had gone against us, even - then you probably wouldn't be reading this now.

Our May 1997 edition marked ('celebrated' would be the wrong word) the tenth anniversary of The Orient Game. Cozzo set the scene, before Igor Wowk gave a masterly summary of the events of that season leading up to the game, a prologue which is often forgotten. Cluggo presented his account of being there, Andy Turner his of not. As a bonus, we throw in an interview with Neil Grewcock, scorer on that day. Enjoy if you can, and consider what was nearly lost.

Newly added... player assessments from that season.
